My Ideal Family
Have you noticed that the fairy tales we grew up with always revolved around family relations? As far as I could remember, Little Red Riding Hood was sent by her mother to bring some goodies to her grandmother; the Three Bears was composed of a Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear; Hansel and Gretel lived with their father and their wicked stepmother before they were left on the woods; and Snow White had seven dwarfs for a family.
What is family by the way? A family is a basic unit of society, as what we have learned many times in our lessons. It’s mad up of individuals who work toward each other’s emotional, physical, moral, and social development. These individuals related by tie of marriage, blood or by agreement, generally live under one roof.
But you know what’s more of it? Well, a family is characterized by the members’ sharing of common goals which are to help each members develop into a mature individual who will be an asset to his/her family and society.
Well, an ideal family for me is somewhat there is much nurturing interaction going on among the family members. There is learning and actualizing values that will help prepare us individuals for family life.
Values like of Life and Health, marriage, value of children and one’s self.
When I say value of life and health, we all know that being alive is a privilege and each human being should use his/her time to safeguard his/her life and those of others. So, a member of family should make his/her life worthwhile by engaging in activities that promote the welfare of his/her family and community as a whole.
Value of marriage for me, the marriage of husband and a wife or a mother and a father is a lifetime commitment of love to one’s chosen partner and children they have. So, responsibilities, and duties should be embraced. There should be the feeling of love and care that surrounds the family.
Value of children, we are the result from the love between our parents. As such, we should be raised with our parents with loving care to become responsible and loving adults (actually my parents does this much).
And lastly value of oneself, each should respect and love himself. One should engage in activities that will help him/her mature to a wholesome and responsible person. A member of the family will gain the respect of the people around him/her if he/she respects him/herself.
All in all, we should always remember that a family is the smallest unit of a society. It is where the values formation provided. It’s where , us, children or students, learned at early age of our lives and it’s where we receive the completeness that we need from a primary group.
